Multiple programs available for seniors

Moffat County provides a range of services for seniors, including opportunities to learn and meet new people.

The Northwest Colorado Visiting Nurse Association has several programs to support seniors, including Hospice Services, which offers care for people who are terminally ill in their own homes, as well as wellness clinics and support groups for Alzheimer's, cancer and more. The VNA also offers homecare for seniors who are not terminally ill.

The VNA recently started Aging Well program, which invites senior citizens to participate in free activities and classes each Wednesday. Seniors may also swim and do water aerobic at the American Legion Post 62 in Craig.

Sunset Meadows I and II, independent living centers on Ledford Street in Craig, offer residents meals, bus service and various activities to participate in. Residents have private apartments and access to a resident garden in the backyard.

Nearby, Sandrock Ridge Care and Rehab offers assisted living for senior citizens including meals, medical care and daily activities.

The Memorial Hospital in Craig offers 24-hour emergency services for area residents, as well.

The Craig Elks Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars offer weekly bingo sessions. The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW also offers a monthly free senior citizens dinner for any resident who would like to attend.

Senior citizens can get involved in a variety of volunteer and working positions at the local library, events such as the Craig Concert Association shows, and service organizations such as Independent Life Center and Moffat County United Way.

Rocky Mountain SER is a program that offers seniors a chance to work at local agencies and learn new skills, such as computer use and filing. Several seniors work at different organizations around Craig through the program.

Colorado Northwestern Community College offers a variety of academic and recreational classes, which are offered to senior citizen tuition-free. Some popular courses are drawing and memoir writing.

Yampatika, a non-profit organization that aims to teach people about natural and cultural resources of Colorado, has classes that target seniors such as interpretive hikes, bird watching and educational programs.
